Cultivation of lemons from seeds is very interesting especially for children, who after drinking lemonade can follow the development of the plant and grow it. Although lemon is flourishing as a very young plant, the fruits will appear only after several years.

Did you know that you can plant lemon in a cup?

To do this, you only need land and seeds:

Choose the largest seeds of lemon or grapefruit. Clean them from the outer skin.

Step 1
  • Pour the water and leave it for 6-7 days, change the water every day.
  • When soaking, the seeds are covered with a gelatinous sheath, this is normal.
Step 2
At the bottom of the cup put a few stones to create drainage, fill the cup after moistening soil. The seeds are placed in the ground pointed end down, leaving space between them about 5 mm.

  • After that, the seeds are covered with coarse sand or gravel.
  • Do not forget to spray the surface with water, every 2-3 days.
Step 4
You can cover the cup with nylon bag or foil, whit which you will create a greenhouse effect. Continue to spray with water once every two days, to support their growth.

The first shoots should appear in about a week.Carefully transplant the shoots in another container if many appear. After 3-5 months, when the seedlings are grown, you should choose the most beautiful and the strongest ones, and transplant them into individual pots on a larger diameter. The composition of the soil should remain the same.

  • However, do not expect the fruit ye, but know that with good care it can become a very beautiful and luxurious house plant.
  • The lemon should be watered in summer, fertilized with nutrient citrus and it would be preferable if you put it on fresh air.
  • If you have a garden, you can place the lemon in the ground together with the flowerpot on a sunny place.
  • In winter, lemons love bright and fresh rooms, of course, without ice. Water it moderately in winter, but do not allow the soil to become completely dry. If part of the leaves drop, there is no need to worry, this is normal. In the spring cut off the brunches, and for a very short time new brunches will grow and there shall be a beautiful bushy crown.
