Shigeaki Hinohara, a Japanese doctor who is now 103 years old and weights 60 kg considers that due to his healthy diet he managed to reach the old age. This Japanese doctor is the oldest doctor in Japan and in the rest of the world too. As a president of the council of trustees at St. Luke’s Hospital in Tokyo, he teaches about nutrition throughout the country and stays busy all the time.


Since the age of 74, he has published over 150 books, one of which, called “Living Long, Living Good” was sold in 1.2 million copies.

He considers that shouldn’t be any strict ruler about dinner and hours intended for sleeping and says that energy comes whenever we are feeling good, but not because of what we eat or how long we sleep.

Food is the most important

For breakfast he had a glass of fruit juice combined with 1 tbsp of olive oil, or a glass of milk with a little powdered lentil and one banana. For lunch he ate 2-3 biscuits with milk, or when busy, he didn’t eat at all. He also points out that when he was focused on work, he never felt hunger. For dinner he also eat fruit, a little fish with rice and 90 grams of fat meat two times a week.

He says that anyone who wants to stay healthy should take the stairs and carry their own luggage.

He takes two steps at a time in order to keep the muscles in good shape. He uses a cane and tries to walk from 2000 to 2500 steps at slow pace.

In March 1970, when he was 59 years old he had to travel from Tokyo to Fukaoka. The thing is that the plain he traveled in, was kidnapped by a faction of the Japanese Communist League. He had to pass 4 days in a seat on 40 degrees heat. At this point, he didn’t see this as a problem, but on the contrary as an experiment and noticed that the body slows in a crisis situation.
